A very Royal engagement for Sookio's production team

The Sookio production team is often out and about filming events for our clients, but we recently took on a project unlike any other – with a distinctly regal edge!

We were honoured to be asked by Cambridge Trust to film when HRH Prince Charles was in town, visiting King’s College to meet students who are Prince of Wales Commonwealth Scholarships Awardees.

The scholarships were launched in 2019 during Prince Charles’s Caribbean Tour, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Commonwealth. Each of the scholarships supports a student studying a practical field that will positively impact the future of their home nation.

During the event, the Prince of Wales met with 7 of the students currently studying a mixture of Master’s and PhD-level programmes at the University of Cambridge with the help of their Commonwealth Scholarship.

As you might imagine, security for the visit was heightened.

There was also a strict embargo on discussing it and we were sworn to secrecy about the shoot, unable to mention it to family members or even other people in the company who weren’t working directly on the project!

This led to various bits of paperwork being pushed through with suspicious speed and the phrase, “Oh, that’s being dealt with,” being used rather a lot...

We’re pleased to report the event went swimmingly!

“Working with the Cambridge Trust is always a pleasure! We were delighted to help them in capturing this high-profile event,” says Matt Harris, Sookio’s Head of Production. “These shoots always take a great deal of careful planning and consideration to get right on the day. The event went brilliantly, as did our filming.”

The resulting footage has been transformed into a video to promote the outstanding work of the Trust.

Founded in the 1980s, Cambridge Trust aims to make education more accessible to international students. The Trust now awards 500 scholarships each year to people around the world who want to study at the University of Cambridge.

We’ve been working together since 2018, helping the Trust develop strategy, social media campaigns and video content to showcase opportunities to potential students around the world.

We also supported them in a series of live events during the pandemic featuring pre-recorded segments and workshops for speakers to help it all run smoothly on the day. Take a look at our case study to find out more.

We’ve been fortunate enough to meet a number of the students taking part in the scholarship programme, and have been blown away each time.

Students from Syria, Afghanistan, remote villages in Ghana, India and Nepal…so many of whom have overcome huge obstacles to get to Cambridge. The world is in a delicate place right now but if these are the leaders of tomorrow the future looks a little brighter.
