Our smartphone photography workshops are created and delivered by Ian Olsson, a renowned Cambridge-based photographer with over a decade’s experience in the field!
Whether you’re shooting head shots or hair products, you’ll learn how to stage the perfect shot and will receive expert guidance when it comes to editing them – all this right from your smartphone!
With the challenges of coronavirus, we are now running all our smartphone photography courses remotely. Same brilliant content, but split into shorter sessions, with worksheets and plenty of activities to help people learn from a distance.
Meet the trainer
Ian Olsson is an outstanding Cambridge photographer with a knack for explaining essential techniques in smartphone photography - plainly and simply.
A Licentiate of the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP), he works with the Cambridge Indie and other commissions to create beautiful photography.
He can show you how to get the very best out of your phone to create attention-grabbing images that really showcase your business, your products, and your people.
What’s in the course?
Getting to grips with your phone. You’ll spend a short time learning about your equipment, its camera features and different lenses
The subject. What are you taking a photo of, and why? Is it interesting to whoever is going to see it? What’s the story behind the picture?
Exposure. If there’s no light, there’s no photo! You’ll learn how to find the light that’s right for your subject, and discover how to take control of the situation in order to get the exposure you want!
Composition. Lots of practical guidance and tips to help you make your photos really stand out, and how to make the best use of format/orientation for different social media channels
Get creative by using all the different features of your camera. You’ll learn techniques to add movement to your images, as well as additional techniques to get the most from your phone camera
In-built phone app and tools. Learn how to use your phone’s inbuilt technology to crop your images, and adjust contrast, colour, and exposure
Advanced editing. Discover Snapseed! You’ll have the chance to get creative with your own style on this powerful editing app. You’ll learn how to remove unwanted objects, straighten wonky buildings, and add text and graphics to your images

Half-day workshop: £1275 for up to five people plus £125 per person on top

Case study: The Body Shop At Home
In January 2021, we had the pleasure of running a smartphone photography training for The Body Shop at Home as part of their online learning conference. Fresh off the Christmas break, with new motivation and energy, their consultants were treated to a full day of workshops, including from Sookio.
The training was delivered by Ian Olsson at The Body Shop HQ in London. With Covid-19 restrictions in place, the session was recorded beforehand and streamed to 10,000+ attendees on the conference day.
